Verizon unveils host of LTE mobile devices

Yesterday I witnessed Verizon’s unveiling of its LTE devices at CES in Las Vegas yesterday. As befits a show in Las Vegas, the unveiling was massively glitzy: locked boxes carried in under security escort and unveiled to the accompaniment of lightning strikes.

Yet despite the glitter, the devices are actually very impressive in terms of the number and diversity of form factors, given the early stage of the LTE market. Real smartphones, mobile Wi-Fi hotspots and tablets, with a heavy emphasis on mobile video calling (via the updated Skype mobile app). Ironically, the very same service which was supposed to differentiate the launch of 3G networks in the UK in 2003.
